The Labtests Takanini Collection Centre was visited on Monday 27 September by a patient who later tested positive for COVID-19. The patient attended with their partner and four children. Both the patient and partner were attending for blood tests – unrelated to COVID-19 or respiratory illness.
This Collection Centre had a security guard at the door who was following our standard screening procedures before allowing people inside, and our staff and patients are required to follow Level 3 rules including mask wearing, hand sanitizing, social distancing, and scanning in before entering our facility.
Labtests was made aware this Collection Centre was a location of interest on Saturday 2 October and eight of our phlebotomy staff have been identified as close contacts who need to isolate for 14 days. Our courier and the security guard are considered Casual Plus contacts.
At this time this means we do not have the staff available to operate the Collection Centre and have made the decision to close until the staff are able to return. We will continue to review rosters and available staff in the region and will look to reopen the centre when sufficient staff are available.
We recognise the closure of this Collection Centre is inconvenient for many in the region. The nearest Collection Centres are Papakura and Manuwera. Refer to the Labtests website for current operation hours.
The exposure event at this location is considered 12.20pm – 2:40pm on Monday 27 September.
Further information on timings and what to do if you were at the Takanini Collection Centre during this time should refer to the Ministry of Health website.
