Microbiology Pathologists

Our specialist pathologists are available to provide expert advice to practitioners. Many of our pathologists also have DHB appointments. Our team can be contacted to discuss urgent or clinically significant results as required. Practitioners wishing to discuss test results with one of our pathologists can contact us.

Dr Arlo Upton

   

Dr Upton is a graduate fo the University of Otago Medical School.  She trained in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Auckland. She then completed her training with a two-year research fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, USA.

 

Dr Upton currently works 0.8 tenths at Labtests and 0.2 tenths at Middlemore Hospital where she has a viral hepatitis clinic. In addition to viral hepatitis, she is interested in the epidemiology of antibiotic resistance and medical education.

 

Dr Upton holds joint fellowships in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Infectious Diseases) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (Clinical Microbiology).

Dr Dragana Drinkovic

   

Dr Drinkovic is a graduate of Belgrade University School of Medicine in Serbia. She was a General Practitioner in Croatia before completing her pathology training at the Military Medical Academy, Institute of Microbiology in Belgrade.

 

Dr Drinkovic then practiced in Serbia as a Clinical Microbiologist before moving to New Zealand in 1994. After obtaining her FRCPA in 2003 she worked in the Microbiology Laboratory in Auckland Hospital before moving to North Shore Hospital, where she is part of the microbiology team.

 

Dr Drinkovic is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, Australian Society for Antimicrobials and Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

 Dr Deborah Williamson

 

Dr Williamson is an honours graduate of the University of Glasgow, Scotland.  She was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) - London in 2004. 

 

After immigrating to Auckland in 2008 she worked primarily in microbiology and is currently employed in a part time capacity as a microbiologist with Auckland District Health Board. 

 

Dr  Williamson has published numberous papers since coming to New Zealand on epidemiology and microbiology and is currently completing PhD studies through Auckland University.
