Haematology Pathologists

Our specialist pathologists are available to provide expert advice to practitioners. Many of our pathologists also have District Health Board appointments. Our team can be contacted to discuss urgent or clinically significant results as required. Practitioners wishing to discuss test results with one of our pathologists can contact us.

Dr Fransisca De Silva

              

Dr De Silva is a graduate of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka Faculty of Medicine. In 2003 Dr De Silva completed Post-Graduate training in General Pathology at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, obtaining her Diploma in General Pathology.

 

Dr De Silva worked at Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital and the National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka. She completed her MD (Haematology) in 2006 through the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, Sri Lanka.  She then moved to Australia where she completed her haematology training at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

 

Dr De Silva is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

Dr Russell O'Neil

Dr O'Neil is a graduate of the University of Otago Medical School. He completed post-graduate training in General Pathology and Clinical and Laboratory Haematology in Christchurch and the United Kingdom.

 

Prior to joining Labtests, Dr O'Neil was Consultant Pathologist with Healthscope's Southern Community Laboratories.

 

Dr O'Neil is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and a member of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ).

Dr Lochie Teague

Dr Teague is a graduate of the University of Otago Medical School. He completed training and fellowships in Paediatrics and Haematology in Auckland with further post graduate training at Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.

 

He has been Paediatric Haematologist since 1992, and since 1998 been Clinical Director of Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Unit at Starship Hospital. Dr Teague is a member and councillor of the Australia and New Zealand Children's Oncology Study Group (ANZCHOG), and Principal Investigator for Children's Oncology Group. Special interests include Paediatric Haematology, Stem Cell Transplantation and Haemophilia.

 

Dr Teague holds joint fellowships in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

Dr Nigel Patton

Dr Patton is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh. He undertook Haematology training in the West Midlands in the UK and worked as Research Fellow and University Lecturer in the Departments of Immunology and Haematology at the University of Birmingham. Dr Patton was subsequently appointed consultant haematologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

 

Dr Patton then moved to Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand in 1994, where responsibilities included Directorship of a Bone Marrow Transplant Programme. He moved to the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science, Adelaide in 2008 before returning to New Zealand. Dr Patton is currently working at Auckland City Hospital and Labtests.

 

Dr Patton holds joint fellowships in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
