Urine for H1AA Tests

The following instructions are for patients attending a Urine for H1AA Test.
 

Caution:  ACID preservative has been added to the container.

Using The 24hr Urine Container

  • Store container out of reach of children.
  • Do not discard acid preservative in container before commencing collection.
  • Do not void directly into the 24 hr urine container.
  • Void into another clean container first e.g. clean ice-cream container or glass jar.
  • Transfer the urine into the 24 hr urine container.

Avoid These Food Items and Drugs

The following substances should, if possible, be discontinued for 2 days prior to and during the test.  (Please consult your doctor if you are uncertain about temporarily ceasing the listed drugs).
 

Avoid These Food Items:

  • Avocados
  • Bananas
  • Eggplant
  • Pineapple
  • Plums
  • Tomatoes
  • Walnuts
  • Chocolate
  • Figs
  • Grapes
  • Kiwifruit

Avoid These Drugs:

  • Acetanilid
  • Acetophenetidin
  • Clinoril (sulindac)
  • Imipramine (Tofranil)
  • Isoniazid
  • Mephenesin carbamate
  • Reserpine
  • Methocarbamol (robasein)
  • Methyldopa (aldomet)
  • Phenothiazines (Largactil, Stemetil, Modecate)
  • Promazine

Urine Collection Procedure

  • Commence collection early in the morning and record this time on the label of the 24 hr container provided.
  • Completely empty bladder at this time and DISCARD the urine.
  • During the next 24 hours, collect ALL urine passed into a clean container.
  • Exactly 24 hours after the commencement time, empty bladder and collect the urine in the same container. Transfer to 24hr urine container.
  • Record the completion time on the label of the 24 hr container, then store in a cool place.
  • Write your surname, first given name, date of birth and date of collection on the container label.
  • Return the specimen to Labtests Collection Centre as soon as possible.
